The rooms

The displays of the Carmagnola Natural History Museum currently occupy seven rooms, 5 of them on the ground floor and two on the first floor (which can also be reached by lift). The ground-floor rooms have a markedly educational approach, with display cases that illustrate the main taxonomic, morphological, behavioural and ecological features of the specimens on display and of the zoological groups they belong to. There are also many dioramas showing the main habitats of the region and their flora and fauna, as well as display cases devoted to palaeontology and mineralogy.

In the rooms on the upper floor the collections are arranged in systematic order. They are mainly used by zoologists and botanists for scientific research devoted to the study of biodiversity, but they are open to the public, who can thus see a great many species that are not on display in the ground-floor rooms.

For research and further study, visitors and researchers can connect to the internet via Wi-Fi.

Snowy owl

A detail of the collection of owls (Strigidae), with a splendid female specimen of the snowy owl, a species that lives in the Arctic tundra, next to a long-eared owl, a species widely distributed in Italy, which also breeds in the vicinity of the Museum itself.
