THE SILENT PROTAGONISTS OF “CASCINA VIGNA” PARK

The “Cascina Vigna” public park, created in 1990 when the farmstead (cascina) of the same name was restored, covers more than 6 hectares, where over 500 plants of 45 species have been planted.

Pro Natura and Lions Club Carmagnola, together with the City Council, have designed a multimedia botanical trail, also suitable for schools, that describes 23 trees of great value, marked in red on the map at the entrance to the Park. As you walk along its paths you come across plaques giving the scientific and the common name of the plant species in front of you. A QR code also leads to botanical information, pictures, curiosities and the old legends linked to it. For children, and not only for them, in a short video Elytron, Dorcadion arenarium, a rare beetle that likes to hide in the Park, acts as a guide to the secrets of the 23 trees (sometimes, as can happen to insects, it gets the pronunciation wrong). It is a storybook, by Cristina Tomaini and Giuseppe Ramoino, almost a game for learning by simplifying the scientific facts.
