The
collections of scientific specimens constitute the cultural patrimony of every
naturalistic museum: they tell the history of the institution, testify the cultural
activity of the Museum and, together with the collection data of each specimens
, constitute the "data bank" that allows new scientific investigations.
They must be increased, cared and preserved n the time with the maximum attention.
In our Museum the researches carried out from the curators and the climate of
collaboration created with numerous other investigators has favoured the formation
of important collections of study, they constitute material of great value for
faunistic surveys of local, regional level, and, for some groups, also important
references for wider sistematic studies. Moreover, in the Museum it is conserved
also typical material , that is the one which the first scientific description
is based on, of numerous taxa of invertebrates, in particular Buprestidae Coleopters,
and even of two vertebrats: Salamandra lanzai, endemic amphibian of the Monviso
massif and Orthrias brandti
banarescui, a freshwater fish from Turkey.
